Why old school prospecting is dead
The secret is out. I’m out to change the industry of network marketing. Too long out great industry has suffered from a bad reputation, so I’ve decided to do something about it.
What is the reason that our industry has a tarnished reputation? It’s basically because there are a lot of people acting in ways that are not professional.
I don’t blame them because they have never received a professional education. But that’s actually not the root cause of it. The real reason is that people attitudes are wrong. They are really not fit for succeeding in the 21st century. Let me explain.
Many sign up in a network marketing because of greed or lazyness. They are thinking in terms of:
”How can I find a few people that will make me rich. They want quick fixes and they want to do as close to nothing as possible. Most people certainly don’t want to invest time and money in educating themselves to be a professional. That’s very shortsighted and that doesn’t work well in today’s world.
It’s truly scary and shocking how many people in our industry have never read a book on how to do network marketing. It’s a sad fact that the majority of my audiences in my trainings have only read my book on the subject. I’m really glad that people have ready my book and it’s a fantastic start, but is it really realistic to expect to succeed at ANYTHING by reading just one book?
The world is changing rapidly and so are the people in it. The era for pushy, aggressive and over-exited salespeople that only want to empty our pockets is over. What we want now, is a person that is real, authentic and cares about what’s important to us. We want people that act like professionals and know what they are talking about.
In the past a lot of associates/distributors were brought into this business by hype. Many if not most have been told that they only have to work very little to get extraordinary results, but that’s the kind of techniques and hype that belong in the past. The prospecting techniques and attitudes that worked 10 years ago doesn’t work that well anymore, and they will work even less in the near future.
But I’ll tell you 2 things that work today and will continue to work in the future:
1) To give value without expecting to receive.
The more value you give the more you will get.
2) To have an attitude of professionalism. Pros get proper education, they invest in themselves and their business.
As soon as you change your mindset and act like a professional you will start to attract far better prospects and they will actually start listening to you, and when more people start to act as pros the perception of our industry will change for the better.
In business change happens all the time and it’s the players that changes the fastest and adapts to the market that wins. You either ride the way of change or you will be taken of the game by the wave of change .
